Forgotten man Vieirinha saved up for Wolfsburg rocket to safety

Once a part of the feared trident including Kevin De Bruyne and Daniel Caligiuri for Wolfsburg, Vieirinha will look back sadly on the days when his club had bigger ambitions for the Bundesliga title and not survival. The Brazilian’s goals had dried up as his team-mates moved on for greener pastures and that pent-up frustration was never more evident when he rifled a blockbuster that threatened to break the back of the net in Wolfsburg’s relegation play-off with Eintracht Braunschweig. The Volkswagen club’s top-flight status was sealed comfortably in the end, ensuring a pay-out of sorts for the long-suffering Vieirinha.
