Mainz clinched a well-deserved 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin at home in a closely contested match.The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot when Karim Rekik charged down Yoshinori Muto. The referee initially refused to award a penalty, but changed his mind after using the Video Assistant Referee, allowing Paolo De Blassis to convert the kick.Referee Tobias Stieler then had another moment of madness late in the game, when he sent off Vedad Ibisevic for touching him.
