Late charge keeps Newcastle Jets' A-League title hopes alive

Dimitri Petratos and Patricio Rodriguez struck late on to hand Newcastle Jets a 2-0 A-League win over Central Coast Mariners to keep the hosts’ title hopes alive. Ernie Merrick’s men bossed the encounter at McDonald Jones Stadium but it wasn’t until Petratos struck in the 82nd minute before Newcastle took the deserved lead. Substitute Rodriguez then fired in a tidy finish 10 minutes later to leave his side eight points behind leaders Sydney FC at the top of the table.
