Zenit 1-1 RB Leipzig (agg. 2-3): Upstarts survive siege to progress

European debutants RB Leipzig marched into the quarter-finals of the Europa League after holding Zenit St Petersburg to a 1-1 draw in their second-leg tie. Some fine passing on the edge of Zenit’s area saw Timo Werner set up Jean-Kevin Augustin’s tidy finish but Leipzig were on the back foot from there. Leandro Paredes crashed a free-kick off the bar and Luca Rigoni saw a spectacular drive tipped over as Werner saw his penalty saved at the other end, though the Bundesliga upstarts ultimately made their own luck to seal a 3-2 aggregate win.
